Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

Hood

The hood has just been hanging on the wall out of the way since I got the car.  I got it down the other day to figure out what needs to be done on it.

The hinges are on the car, so the only two items that go on the hood are the receiver for the hood prop rod, the plate for the latching mechanism and safety catch.  It turns out that the latch plate was missing.  I dropped by a friend's coupe to see what I needed to find.

It turns out that this is the same part as the RH door latch plate.  I may have it and just thought that it was an extra part.

As I was hoping, I did have the part, nicely chromed and wrapped up, so one less issue to deal with.

The matching latch mechanism needed a little work.  It had been painted black as it was left on the car when the engine compartment was painted.  The innards were originally zinc plated, along with the screws that fastened the cover to it.  So I took off the cover, stripped and painted it after fixing a couple of dents.  I was able to glass bead the mechanism without removing the plating, so only the screws needed to be plated.  A little grease, black oxide on the body mounting screws and it is re-attached on the car.
