Bare Metal after Stripping

I visited my car after it came back from the media blasting.  It was stripped using a plastic media which isn't as harsh on the surface as sand or glass bead.  The lighter gray areas are lead.

Here is a butt weld line in the front fender done with a oxy-acetylene torch by Pininfarina when the car was made.  Not bad for 60s workmanship.

The body was about what I remembered from when I did the original work on it 30 years ago.  The shop is going to spend more time using a hammer and dolly than I did, so the filler layer will be thinner and more uniform.  Here you can see where I did some leading.  I was pretty good on a flatter surface, but vertically, more lead ended up on the floor than on the car.  I had redone most of the lead around the headlights back then as there was rust underneath, causing the lead (and paint) to crack.  The rust holes were brazed up and RustMort (best rust product at that time) was used prior to the leading.  It still looks fine, with no signs of any problems.

There were two areas of rust to worry about.  They were in the rear of the rockers where the clip for the triangular rail under the door bolts through the body.  I'm going to have the shop put in a 1/4" hollow tube welded to both the rocker and the inner panel.  That way there is no opening for the water to get inside of the body.  The right picture shows the hole (red circle) and rust areas (red arrows) resulting from water getting inside the rockers.  The blue circle shows the elongated hole for the PF script to be welded up and re-drilled.  The blue arrow points to an extra hole that was just filled over and will also be welded up.

The shop welded up the antenna holes and the extra holes in the rear before the media blasting since my marks on the paint for what to do would disappear when the paint was blasted off.

In looking over everything, I found two holes in the trunk channel that shouldn't be there.  When I bought the car, it was taken apart and I suppose that I assumed something belonged there.  I must have used filler on them when I repainted it with enamal to fix the crazing in the lacquer I first used.  Anyway, they will be welded up this time.

They had already rust proofed the doors, hood and trunk lid and painted a somewhat shiny primer to see where the metal work is needed.

The next step is to rust proof and prime the body.
