Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
One of the things I've always been confused on was the emergency window crank handle. When you look at the body parts book, foglio 11, the picture looks like a regular window crank handle similar to one that would be used for a manually opened window except that it has a shaft that fits into the motor.
Bruce Snowdon took apart the window motor on his 330 GTC, measured all of the appropriate places and made a handle that works. He kindly sent me a drawing and picture of his completed crank.
The shaft releases the motor from the window crank assembly while the pin locks it into place. With the motor released, the window cranks up and down about the same as a manually cranked window would do.
This lead me to ask a couple of people if they had an original window crank. A. J. Obara (SN 9667) had recently found and bought one. I was quite surprised to find that it actually is a real window crank handle just like in the body parts book. I was expecting to see a utilitarian model similar to the 365 2+2 one.
Someone else mentioned that this looks much like the window crank handles
used in mid 60s Alfas. That's not too surprising in that Pininfarina
frequently used standard body parts that were available at that time.
Another example is the Series II backup lights. They also were on various
Fiats of the same era.
This is a picture from 1966 Alfa Guilia. It's not quite identical, but very close. Maybe someone can help in this search. If so, please contact me. Once the proper handle is found, making the shaft and fitting it to the handle will be pretty straightforward.
