Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
The original jute padding under the carpet had been removed by the prior owner during his restoration attempt. At the time I replace the carpet, I just used some left-over foam padding that is used under wall-to-wall carpeting.
I did a little research and found that jute padding is still available in various thicknesses. I had Lowell Brown check on the thickness of the original padding in his car and it turned out to be about " thick, so I ordered enough to put under the front and rear carpets.
The PF body parts manual does a good job showing where the padding is used and the approximate shape.
In particular, I need parts 9, 10 and 13 (both sides). I also realized that someone had replaced part 5 (vertical sections under the rear seats) with foam. So the next time I need to take out the rear seats, I'll plan on replacing those pieces too. The interesting thing is that parts 13 clearly show a slot that fits over where the floor pan fits over frame, but in looking at the exposed frame, I can see where the original padding was glued over it. I fit the padding around the frame so the carpet doesn't stick up quite as much.
To start, you have to remove the seats. Then I took the foam underlayment pieces and used them as a pattern, noting where I needed any adjustments. Then it was simply cutting out each piece and then punching holes where all of the snaps are screwed down to the floor that hold the carpet pieces in place. Then it was trying to get high gluing it down with contact cement. Here is the final result.
