Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
A friend of mine that makes frequent trips to Europe on business also owns a 330 GT. He's been doing quite a bit of parts scrounging, particularly in Italy.
One of his best finds was locating the factory that now owns the molds used to make most of the rubber parts for Ferrari (and others) in the late 60s. So he's been able to get a number of new rubber parts that are exactly like the originals. Furthermore, the owner is willing to make new molds if he doesn't have them provided a good original can be supplied.
Here are some of the items in the last shipment.
Foam trunk seal on the left, T-shaped rubber for under the door at the top and hood/trunk edge trim on the lower right. |
These are some of the parts that were just made from new
molds. The piece at the top is the rubber that goes behind the door handle. The round pieces are for the door and trunk locks. |
My friend also finds time to haunt
the Ferrari UK parts department. He's the one who found the
front license plate frames.
His latest foray yielded the clips and plastic nipples used to hold the door panels on. The metal piece on the right goes in the stainless steel trim strip that is under the door. These fit into the triangular trim and the little clips in the center grab onto the flange on the body. There are supposed to be eight on a side, but I'm down to four or five on per side as they are prone to breaking. So the next time I have the trim off, I can add the new pieces. |
I've had some more parts arrive since I first wrote this. To continue, click here.
