Kerry's 330 GT Restoration

Toolkit

I had collected a full toolkit for my 330 along with a single bag to hold everything.

When I bought the PF coupe, I started collecting again.  The one big thing is the bag to hold everything.  My 330 is late enough that it could have been delivered with twin bags, one for the tools and the other for the jack, etc.  I decided to use the single bag for the coupe and I got a twin bag set for the 330.

The bags I got had a couple of straps that needed replacing.  I spent some time at a leather place looking through the scrap bins until I found a close match for color and thickness.  As you can see, the loop holding the buckle had worn through.  At this point, I've cut the leather to size, drew in the lines by the edges and punched the two holes for the buckle slot.

Here's the strap ready to be re-attached on the left and the final installation on the right.

When I removed the old straps, I drilled the bottom plate off of the rivets.  This left the head and hollow shaft intact with the shaft of the old bottom plate inside the shaft from the head.  I was able to carefully remove the bottom shaft leaving the original head able to be re-used.  I got a set of rivets from a local crafts store.  The bottom parts were almost identical to the original.  I just had to cut some extra length off with a cut-off wheel on the Dremel.  When everything was back together, you can't tell that it's been repaired except for the new leather.  The other strap just needed replacing.

I've got everything done except for punching the latch holes in the strap.  I need to get a leather punch with smaller holes to do that.  Here's all of the tools transferred to the new bags.

There are a few differences in the tools from the first picture.  The late 330s came with the yellow jack with the claw foot.  The blue jack I originally had is correct for the coupe.  The hub puller for later models had a removable handle so the other one will go to the coupe toolkit.

I picked up a hollow punch set with small dies (down to 2mm).  The smallest size was just right for the strap holes.  By punching one hole at the end of where the hole should be, I was able to offset the punch about half the hole and punch an elongated hole just like the original strap.
