Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
When I purchased the car, the title had 'GT8755JGM3850M' for the VIN. I didn't do anything about it, even though it had a J for the I and was missing a number. However, a few months ago I decided to get that fixed. After checking with a couple of other 330 GT owners here in Washington, I found that their titles just had the 4 digit serial number on them. So I sent an email (isn't the Department of Licensing in Washington state modern) explaining the problem, including these two pictures.
I got a quick reply saying that they would research the problem and get back to me. A week or so later, I got a call and the explanation that they no longer had the background information from when the Washington title was created. So I had to go to the State Police vehicle inspection station with the car to have everything verified. The officer there was in a quandary. I explained the issues. Then he spent some time looking in some VIN identification/location book they have and it didn't help. After looking at my pictures and the numbers on the car, he finally asked me what I wanted the VIN to be and I replied with the 4 digit serial number. A couple of weeks after sending his form and the title to Olympia (state capitol of Washington for those of you long since out of school), I got the new title with the right serial number.
Since then, I obtained the build sheet which shows that my car was completed on July 1, 1966. It is titled as a 1967, so eventually I need to get that corrected too.
