Kerry's 330 GT Restoration

Emergency Window Crank Plugs

For the later 330 GT with electric windows, there's a hole in each door panel that allows access for an emergency crank to raise or lower the window in the event of a problem with the electrics.  I had never paid much attention to these holes, but as usual, when sitting in someone else's 330 GT, I noticed that these holes have plugs to cover them.  Here's one from a friend's car.

After measuring the size needed to cover the hole and trim, I decided that a 3/16" fender washer was about the right size.  This saved getting out a hole saw and finding some metal to make that part.  The one above used a bolt brazed onto the plate.  I decided that I would use a long 3/16" pop rivet with a 6mm nut for a spacer to position the spring clip at the right place.  With a little foam rubber tack sprayed to hold it in position, the head of the rivet won't ever be a problem.  Then some leather cut and glued on finished the project.

One more project to cross the never ending list.  It seems that every time is get around another 330 GT that's new to me, I always find something that isn't done right or missing from my car.  Now if I just had the emergency crank that fits in the hole once the plug is removed.  I guess that I just need to keep the electric windows in good working condition.
