Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

Dennison Visit 3/14/19

I had hoped that the body would be back from the stripper, but they are having trouble stripping the color coat.  Their super duty stripper just isn't doing much to the blue paint.  They hate that paint.  Once it is gone, the primer, etc. comes off as normal.  But it should be done and back at Dennison's when I go back down in a couple of weeks.

The engine is almost together.  The mechanic was getting ready to put on the pan and get it running on the dynameter.

The shop that they use for the upholstery work is in the same complex, so I went over to see what was happening on the seats.  The leather has been ordered from HVL in the Netherlands, but since it is made to order, it hasn't arrived.  However, there is quite of prep work that is being done now.

Dennison had taken off the hinges and had them chromed.  Then they assembled everything together and found that the seat back on the passenger side had been tweaked at some point.  They were able to straighten it so the hinge fit into the seat properly.

The upholstery shop had taken apart the leather, webbing and foam etc.  One thing that they found interesting was that the passenger seat had fittings for a head rest.  However, the leather didn't show any signs of ever having a head rest installed.  So I don't know if Pininfarina had this option on all PF coupes

The upholstery shop had replaced the springs and rubber webbing along with canvas portions and the wood pieces that the leather is stapled to.  They are ready to start forming the foam for the seat bottoms and backs.

The transmission hit a glitch.  One of the parts that needs replacing has an internal tooth count of 29.  However, that normal pair of those parts has a count of 28.  Nobody seems to have the 29 tooth part, so both parts will need replacing.

The differential has been taken apart with good and bad news.  The pinion has broken teeth, so it and the ring will need replacing. The good news is that GTO Engineering in the UK has made reproduction parts.  The bad news is the cost, over 2K pounds.

The level of detail that Dennison is doing is amazing.  This car will be better than new once the restoration is complete.  An example is the oil breather cap.  You can see the restored caps on left side of the right picture.
