Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)
Not a lot happened in April, but at least the monthly bill was a lot smaller.
A lot of parts were cleaned, stripped and sent off for various plating, including black oxide, cadmium and paint.
The valve covers were removed, cleaned and had new wrinkle paint applied. The throttle linkage towers, wiring tubes, head shields and fuse panel cover were also wrinkle painted. Some dents were removed the the air cleaner top.
All of the car color interior parts were stripped and readied for painting.
One of the leaf spring supports was broken and re-made. The king pins were re-assembled with new needle bearings.
The bumpers were sent out for stripping and plated with the first copper layer. Then any imperfections were removed and the pieces filed and then saneded with 36, 80 and 120 grit sandpaper as needed. Some needed to be sent back for more copper plating.
The fuel tank had an access hole cut in order to remove some huge dents. Then all of the seams were checked and leaded as necessary. There were some pin holes that needed leading too. Finally the hole was capped and the tank pressure tested. The last step was sloshing five gallons of phosphoric acid inside to stabilize any surface rust.
The new ring and pinion for the differential arrived and the differential is assembled and ready for installation.
At this point, work may slow down as the Pebble Beach Concours is in August. They have a Bugatti that they are preparing for PB, and my car has a lower priority as I don't need it finished until spring of 2020. But at the rate they are working, it may be done by late fall or winter.
