Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

May 2019

Again, my car is taking back seat to other time critical projects at Dennison.

A couple of things did happen though.  It took 17 hours to hand strip and blast the existing paint and bondo off the car.  Both the engine compartment and trunk had significant bondo, neither of which should have been done.  If it couldn't be seen from the outside with the doors closed, Pininfarina did not worry about how things looked with regards to the metal work.  I made the same mistake on my 330 when I first painted it.  I made the hood and trunk channels nice and smooth.  When I had it repainted a could of years ago, I had them remove this bondo and just paint it as is.

The gauges had been sent out for total restoration and they came back.

Another thing that they noticed was that I supplied a Stridor air compressor and Fiamm Road Master trumpets for the horn.

In looking at other PF coupe pictures, they have Fulgor air compressors and Marchal trumpets.  I called Tom Shaughnessy to see if he had the right horn parts and he did, even including the brackets for the compressor,  Of course, they will need restoration, including updating the dates on the trumpets to be nearer to the 1960 build date on my car.

They continued work on the bumpers, more copper plating and sanding to remove imperfections.

The brake lines were either re-used or new ones made identical to the old ones.  All of the beaver-tail switches were disassembled to allow re-chroming.  Disassemble and clean all of the other switches, then re-assemble them.

So lots of background work is being done, so everything should be ready to go on the car when it has been painted.
