Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

October 2019

When the bill for the October work came, it was back to normal, i.e. another CR-V.  At least a lot of work, mainly sheet metal is being done.

One of the labor items was for making a set of bead rollers for the panels in the trunk.  Most shops would just replace the panels with plain sheet metal, but Dennison makes then exactly like the originals.  This is not only correct, but stiffens the panels to make the car more rigid.  You can see the formed panels welded in place along with the markings for the ends of each bead.

The right rear corner is getting new sheet metal as the old was pretty beaten up.

This will also need to be done on the left rear and driver's side wheel well as there is a lot of rust there too.

The right rear inner fender well is coming along along with the new rocker panel skin.

I thing that I never was taught about when I took auto body evening courses was the use of Cleco fasteners.  These are like temporary pop-rivets designed to hold panels together as they are worked on.  Once the panel is correctly finished, the fasteners are removed and either replaced with permanent fasteners, or in this case, the hole is used to weld the two panels together with the weld ground off flat.

The seats are being assembled and I'll get some pictures the next time I visit.  The Ferrari horse for the grille was re-chromed. Both doors have been fitted to the car and are latching properly.
