Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)
About 160 hours of work in March. Even though Washington state was the start of the Covid-19 pandemic in the US, auto repair is considered an essential industry by the governor. So far, none of the workers at Dennison have been affected and work has continued on the coupe. Due to the Stay at Home put in place here in WA, I have not been down to visit the car since mid February.
All of the metal work is completed and the car is off to the blasters to remove the black guide coat paint applied to various areas during the metal work. When that is done, it goes to the paint shop for a seal primer coat and to start the filler work. After that, it comes back to Dennison to have various bits, like the lights, etc. put back on for the final filler work and color paint.
The paint color that I selected is also a problem. I originally picked that same red that Jon Shirley painted his California Spider. However, that paint is no longer available as one of the component parts isn't made anymore. So, I thought of using Rosso Rubino. Dennison checked with the painter and there is not a modern formula for that color, but these two samples are close. The one on the right is Rosso Barchetta while the one on the left is DBC-74517 and slightly darker.
Then I went back and looked at a color chip set for the PF coupe.
#1 is 10.027 Rosso Bordeaux while #2 is 16.119 Rosso Rubino. I decided that I like the darker Rosso Bordeaux a little better. So, now I'm waiting to see if there is a modern formula for that color. They both look lighter than the paint samples above, but given that they weren't photographed or scanned at the same time it's not surprising. I still have a few weeks before the final selection needs to be made.
