Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)
The car came back from the paint shop a few days ago. It's now in primer.
I stopped by to pickup the old wheels and tires. The work that is being done now to to fit the external parts and see if any adjustments need to be done not that all of the body filler is on the car. Here you can see the rear bumper, still in copper and how it conforms to the body.
The overriders didn't match pictures I have of other PF Coupes, so they had to be re-worked.
The front bumper didn't wrap around to the side of the car correctly, so a section had to be cut out and re-welded.
The doors are also being refit to check on the edge gaps. You can also see little smears of filler in various places. These are filling in tiny air pockets that show up once the primer is on.
The trunk and sunroof will also be refit and adjusted as needed.
All of the hardware including the tail lights will be checked too. As you can see, this taillight is still in copper.
They also removed the panel at the front of the trunk by drilling out all of the rivets. This was to facilitate access for the media blasting, primer and undercoating.
The saga on the wheels continues. Four of the correct 3526 wheels were located, rebuilt and delivered back to me. The last wheel is still being worked on as another 3526 wheel couldn't be found. Instead, it will be a drum brake rim with a disk brake hub effectively making it into a 3526 wheel.
I picked up the incorrect wheels and tires.
The the 185VR16 Pirelli Cinturato CA67 tires are due to be delivered today. Now, I will be able to have the old tires dismounted so I can return the 3598 wheels to TomS as part of our deal. At the same time, the new tires will be mounted and balanced on the correct rebuilt wheels.
The new tires arrived, so I took the old tires/wheels along with the new rims and tires to the tire shop. It was a tight fit to get everything into the CR-V. I don't think I could have gotten the fifth set into the car unless I put some of the rims in the front seat so it's good that the spare wasn't ready yet.
They dismounted the old tires and them mounted and balanced the new ones on the new rims. The shop manager did the work and was very careful with the highly polished rims. At first he said that they couldn't balance them, but I told him how they had balanced the 330 GT wheels a couple of years ago. They need to put a cone on backwards so the flat side is to the wheel. Then the wheel with the hub to the flat and a cone to center everything. So, he was able to get them all balanced.
So, the next time I visit Dennison, I'll take them down and they'll be ready to go on the car once the suspension has been installed.
