Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

August 2020

The car has been in the paint shop getting the bondo work finished and the primer applied.  Then the primer was block sanded first with 120 grit, followed by240 grit and finished with 400 grit.  Then the body was blown out to remove the dust.  Seam sealing was done and it was masked for the color coat.

After the color coat was applied and the car was outside in the hot sun to help cure it, it was wet sanded with 600 grit and then 1000 grit.

At the shop detail work on the horns was being done.  The compressor was dis-assembled and stripped for painting.  The bolts and nuts were sent out for either cad or nickel plating. A new Fulgor tag for the horn compressor was obtained and stamped with the same dates at the original.  The tag had to have holes drilled to match the pump body and then it was riveted back in place.  The trumpets were stripped and dents were removed.

At the same time, dents were removed from the voltage regulator cover and base for the trumpets.

A lot of sanding and filling on the various chrome parts, including the bumpers, over riders window frames, taillights and dash parts.  Some of these required multiple trips to the plater to add more copper needed to fill in imperfections.

The taillights had to be sand blasted to remove flaking copper on the back side so it wouldn't eventually cause flaking on the visible portions. Then they were sent back out for more copper.

The front windshield was crated and sent off to Canada to have new glass made.

When parts are completely finished, they are stored away in cabinets to keep them pristine and from getting lost.
