Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

Dennison Visit 1/14/21

The December bill had just come in before I went down.  I had noticed that there was a charge for new front marker lights which surprised me since I had supplied new ones in the parts.  I mentioned that they must not have liked the ones but Will said that he used the ones from me.  It turns out that one parts invoice was billed to my car improperly.  By the time I got home, a corrected invoice was in my inbox for about $1000 less.  That paid for my gas and some left over to go visit the car.

On the last visit, I brought home the spare wheel as I had the new tire and inner tube.  I got them mounted and took the spare wheel back down on this visit.  When I had the other four tires mounted, I had the tire shop balance them.  During the last visit, I found out that they were going to remove the stick on weights and use lead wire wrapped around the appropriate spokes as this was how Ferrari balanced wire wheels in the late 50s and early 60s.  So I didn't bother to have the tire shop balance the spare.  Here it is ready to go into the trunk (of the coupe, not the 308).

The car came back from the painters to touch up a chip and fix the drip gutter.  I can't remember exactly where the glitch was in the right picture, but it's not there now.

The engine and transmission are in the car.  Notice the NO OIL written on the tape over the carb inlets.

The drive shaft and differential aren't quite meeting up.  They have to shorten the straps that limit the drop on the diferential.

The headliner has arrived so that will be ready for the interior guy.

The hood pad, bows and latch are on the hood and the hood has been fit with the radiator in place.  They had to rework the radiator mounts slightly as the hood hinges were hitting them.

The dash is being fit to the car and is ready to go across the parking lot to the upholstery shop as soon as the proper leather arrives.  Some of the trim parts have not been painted body color yet.  Butch says that they used to paint them with the car, but then frequently had to modify some, requiring stripping and a repaint so it's faster to not paint them until everything has been fit together..

Lots of external parts are on the car now.

The windshield and rear glass are having the rubber and chrome trim fit to them.

This is now the new windshield was shipped.  Too bad I can't keep the box to store the old glass and the extra windshield, but it was borrowed from Jon Shirley.

Butch didn't like the used belly pan I had nor the radiator pan that I made, so new ones were made up.  Anyone want a used PF coupe belly pan?

The steering wheel came back from the engravers.  It looks so good, that I might have the one on my 330 redone.

The doors and door panels are about ready for the upholstery work.  Once the upholster has taken off the leather, new panels will be made.

Now the parts cabinets that were devoted to my car are down to a couple of shelves as items are put on the car.

The expected completion date is end of March.  The FCA International meet is in Portland, OR in July if COVID-19 cooperates.  I plan on showing the car there.  Then a few days later, the Forest Grove Concours is nearby, so I'll probably stay down there and take the car there.
