Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

Dennison Visit 7/8/21

I went down to Dennison to pickup the old and spare front windshield.  I also checked on the motor re-rebuild progress.  They were in the process in re-stalling the crank with the replacement main cap.

Here is the failing cap.  It's difficult to see, but one side is now about 1/8" shorter.  The new main cap looks great with the bearing and oil grooves machined in.  The machinist said that it took about a day to make it.

I thought I was done with parts on carts, but now all of the engine parts are on them

The new rings have arrived, end gapped and installed on the pistons.

So now it's just a couple of days to get it back together.

In the brief time before noticing the oil issue on the engine dyno, they realized that the overdrive would not engage.  It turns out that 4th gear moves a ball bearing that pushes the switch to enable power to the O/D solenoid.  This prevents the use of overdrive except in 4th gear and if the O/D is engaged, it disengages if you shift out of 4th.  The problem was that the ball bearing was just a little too small to move the switch correctly.  At least this was easy to diagnose and fix with the transmission out of the car.

The car is temporarily stored across the parking lot, so I went over and took a couple of pictures.  At least the mirrors are installed now.

The interior looks bare without the seats and tunnel.  I did get a good look at the wiring that got covered by the engine before I saw it all completed before.

I did notice a note for how to shim the hood when they put it back on.  This side goes against the hood so it won't be seen.
