Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

Toolkit

Of course, there was no toolkit with the car when I bought it.  I had built up a toolkit for my 330 GT using a one piece bag.  Since the 330 is a late model, it could have also come with a 2 piece setup, so I decided to go that route, which freed the one piece bag for use in the PF coupe.

Figuring out exactly what should be in a toolkit is sketchy at best.  Since there was never an owner's manual for the series 2 coupes, one has to interpolate.  The 250 GT inside plug parts manual does show and list the tools.  The next owner's manual from Ferrari is the one for the GTE.  It also shows and lists the tools.

GTE toolkit

Of these two, the GTE toolkit is more accurate for an outside plug 250 car.  In it are:

  1. *Weber carburetor wrench
  2. *Pliers
  3. Large screwdriver (for slotted screws)
  4. Small screwdriver (for slotted screws)
  5. *Grease gun (flat cast handle) and flexible extension with button style adapter (drive shaft extension not shown)
  6. *Lead hammer
  7. *500 gram steel hammer
  8. **Spark plug wrench (curved handle)
  9. *Hub puller (fixed handle)
  10. *Riganti jack
  11. *Carrello oil filter wrench
  12. **Pirelli fan belt
  13. Beta Auto 55 open end wrench set:
    8-9 mm
    10-11 mm
    12-13 mm
    *14-15 mm
    *16-17 mm
    *18-19 mm
    *20-22 mm
    21-23 mm

Here's a toolkit from a series 1 car as pictured in Road & Track, June 1960 issue.  This car is a late series 1 car as the article mentions that a series 2 car came into the dealership just after the testing.

I had picked up several repro tools over the years, but recently got an original oil filter wrench on eBay for a reasonable price.  It had seen a lot of use, including having the original rivets replace with a couple of small screws.

Since I make reproduction oil filter wrenches, of course, I have the right rivets and tools to make this right.  It took quite a while to remove the old bent screws using a cut-off wheel.  I had to be careful to not get too close to the wrench, but to only cut on the screws.  Eventually, I got everything apart, cleaned and put back together with rivets.  I guess the next time I make a batch of wrenches, I'll add this one when I send them out for cad plating.  Here's the fixed original along side of my my reproduction ones.

I had also fixed a broken oil filter wrench that's in the 330 toolkit.

Most of the outside plug 250s came with a Riganti blue jack.  After getting a yellow jack for the 330, the blue one became available for the PF coupe.  However, I had to repair it.

Here's what the toolkit looks like when fully filled up.
