Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

Purchase

As I mentioned in my home page, getting this car was interesting.

When I first looked at it at Tony Nancy's shop (11/2002), there were a number of major parts missing.  These included the radiator, flywheel, valve springs, etc.  Expensive and difficult to locate items.  Tony and I (through Michael Sheehan) were never able to get together on a price.  So I passed on the car.  Later I heard that it was headed to Australia but that didn't occur.  Eventually Paul Forbes in Costa Mesa bought the car, supposedly paying in cash.  Evidently Paul made three trips to Tony's to find all of the parts and get everything together.

At Tony Nancy's shop

The next thing I saw on the car was an eBay auction (5/2003) being run by someone in Oregon.  I inquired just to find out if everything had been found.  I was told that it had been.  The car didn't sell in the auction.

Not too long after that, Tom Shaughnessy called and asked if I had room in my shop to store the car for a while.  He had brokered the sale from Forbes to someone near Seattle who didn't have room for it just then.  I agreed as it would let me have an example to look at when working on my PF coupe.  Evidently it was a complicated purchase that ended up in a law suit because some of the parts were missing.  I had seen an extra tire (for the spare), valves, bearing sets and a horn compressor that weren't with the car when it was delivered.  I sent a statement of what I had seen at Tony Nancy's shop, but there wasn't a written agreement for the purchase that detailed what was to be with the car.  So I heard that the buyer didn't get much satisfaction.

It turned out to be a larger project than anticipated, so I ended up with the car.  It had never left my shop!  So I got busy sorting out all of the parts and figuring out what I needed to do.
