Rubber Adjustment Pads

When I had to find and make the spring loaded hood bumpers, another thing that was needed was the rubber pads that fit underneath them.  At that time, I just free-hand cut a couple out of some sheet rubber.  They worked, but weren't very well cut.  Since then I bought a set of punches for cutting rubber or gaskets.

With this set, I went back to make some more pads that would look a lot nicer.  To start, I measured the outside diameter needed.  That was 1 9/16".  Of course, my punch set had 1 1/2" and 1 5/8" but not 1 9/16".  I ended up using the larger size to cut the initial circle and a 3/4" one for the inner circle.

Next thing was to square off the inner circle and round off the points.

Then I cut off the excess on the far side.

The last thing was punch the holes for the screws.  Here are the finished parts along with a stack of the original ones.

As you can see from the stack of originals, several could be used to adjust the height of the light switches so they worked properly.  These would be used with the switches under the hood, in each door jamb and in the trunk.  Only one is needed for each of the hood bumpers as their adjustment is built into the spring assembly.
