Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
The hood bumper looks pretty complicated initially.
However, it's really only two cylinders with a spring between each one and a flange on the outer one. With the help of Dave Hoffman, I got several brass ferrules that had about the correct diameters.
The outside ferrule wasn't quite long enough, so I sleeved two of them with a piece of brass tubing, sweat soldering them together. The inside ferrule got the bolt with a brass washer that was soldered to the bottom. Then the flange was cut and soldered to the outside ferrule.
Adding the spring, rubber bumper and assembling gave me a hood bumper that looks pretty close to an original.
Here's the final part after cadmium plating.
I also ended up making rubber pads that go between the body and hood bumper. The rubber tops shown here are ones that I found in a catalog which were close. Eventually I got hold of an original and had reproduction ones made up. Click here for that story.
