Motor Mount Shields

I was looking at the GTC parts book at the 330 2 mount engine TAV 1 and noticed that my engine doesn't have any heat shields over the engine mounts as shown. The parts book shows the cover as part #28 and mounting screws #29.

I've never paid any attention to the engine mounts. In fact, when I rebuilt and installed my engine, I didn't even know that the GTC book had the updated 2 mount block pictures.

I posted a thread on TomY's message board to see if other cars had these shields or not.  They most certainly are on 275, 330 GTC and 365 models based on the replies.

Chris Coios kindly took some pictures of the mounts on his 275 as the engine is out of the car.  Here you can see the shield, mount with the holes for the screws and the two together

He also mentioned that they were made from .040" aluminum and the holes for each side didn't match, so were hand-drilled.

I'll be replacing my leaky collectors pretty soon, so I'll take that opportunity to make these shields.  Even if they aren't OEM on the early 330 GTs, it makes sense to have them to protect the engine mount rubber from the exhaust pipe heat.  You can see the cracks in the rubber on the upper side which is closest to the headers.

The screws were simple pan head sheet metal screws.  I'll probably use some pan head metric screws and tap the mounts.  That way, I won't shear off a sheet metal screw by using too small of a hole.

Since I was replacing the starter, I was able to make the shields and get the one installed on the RH side.  The other side will have to wait until I need to take a header off over there.

BTW, the each shield is made from a piece of .040 aluminum, 2" wide and 5.5" long, bent in a semi-circle about 3.5" in diameter.
