Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

June 2019

Again, my car is taking back seat to other time critical projects at Dennison.  When they only bill 25 hours for a whole month, I know that not a lot happened.

The escutcheons that cover the tubes where the bumper struts mount were in pretty poor shape.  The picture on the left is one before they stripped the chrome while the ones on the right is after.

Further, I had three of a larger diameter (where they meet the body) and one of a smaller.  The smaller size goes in the rear.  They looked at getting some made by metal spinning, which I did for my 330 years ago.  In addition, they asked for a quote from a 3D printing company.  But, it turned out that David Carte had some of these made up, so Dennison was able to get new ones from him and at a good price, only $250 for all four.  The ones for the 330 cost $310 back in 1995 to have made.

They had the brake equalizer valve sleeved and rebuilt.  This valve is in the front brake system and doubles the pressure on the front brakes to help equalize the braking front to rear.  A lot of 250s have had the innards removed as they are problematic or simply replaced with a T fitting to go to each front caliper.  But since I had the complete part, it made sense to have it rebuilt.  Here's all of the inner parts, strung on some wire to keep them in order.

They also sent out the fog lamp bezels out for engraving.  They didn't have the correct marking on them.  Overkill as these are mounted behind the grille with little chance of anybody ever seeing the new engraving, but that it what Dennison does best, getting it absolutely correct.

I received a question about air filters.  I hadn't paid much attention to which ones were in the air cleaner.  It turns out that they were Fram, and not the original FISPA that I thought were in there.  The FISPA ones are a permanent style that just need to be cleaned and oiled lightly when they get dirty.  I looked out in the shop as I was pretty sure that I had a NOS set of FISPA ones that were correct.  I found them along with a set of new paper filters.

I also found another FISPA used set that I'm not sure what car they might fit.  These are about 2 1/8" high, oval, 6 1/4"x7 1/2" OD.  If anybody know what they fit, please let me know.

They also got a set of valve stem protectors.  This picture is of one from a 330 GT, but you get the idea.

They continued working on the bumpers, over-riders and fitting the bumpers to the body.

Yes, not a lot happened, but the total for the month was just a little more than the sales tax on last's month bill.  I'm going down for a visit next week to drop off the air filters and pick up some of the parts that are not going to be used.
