Kerry's 250 GT Pininfarina Coupe Restoration (1643GT)

November 2020

This month the labor page ran to six pages, I know that lots of work is being done.  360 hours of labor.

The sunroof mechanism begin adjusted to the roof slides nicely and will lift into position as it closes.  The glued on old headliner was removed from the inner panel and trim.  The fuzzy trim was installed in the roof opening.  That's Butch Dennison in the background.

More work on the doors with the vent window and glass installation.

The dash was filled as needed to have the teak fit with the chrome trim.  Then the teak veneer was glued to the dash and sprayed with three coats of clear.  The glove box door and trim were fitted to the dash.  In the process, the trim around the glove box broke in one corner, so it was welded and sent out to be re-chromed.

The hood pad straps were sanded and polished.

The grille was finished and installed.  I though that the grille was riveted together, but as you can see, straight oval head machine screws are correct.  I'll just wish that the grille will stay as highly polished as it is now, but I know that the aluminum will oxidize over time and require maintenance to keep it looking good.

Several bits of machining were required for bolts in the rear suspension and differential.  The wiper box rubber inserts had to be made and then adjusted to fit the body as each side was different.

The rain gutter chrome trim was fit to the body.

The front brake booster was installed.  This is Ferrari's attempt to provide more braking to the front brakes compared to the rear.  It affectively doubles the pressure on the front calipers via a piston inside that pushes brake fluid to each front piston individually.

The wiper motor was tested and a dead short was found.  So it disassembled and breaker ring was shorting out.  The rivets were drilled out and new fish paper was put in and everything riveted back together.  I remember testing it, but never has the motor body grounded so didn't see the short.

The hood bumpers were trimmed to fit closer to the opening.

A new wiring harness was made.

New aluminum trim was made and fit to the front and rear of the trunk opening.

It was noticed that the lens on the Marchal 520 reverse light was plastic, so a glass one was procured.

Too other things to detail here.
