License Plate Frame

The rear license plate frame fits onto the trunk lid and conforms to the curvature.  It wasn't clear to me if there was supposed to be U-shaped rubber trim to keep the frame off of the paint or not.  I fit some of the larger U-shaped rubber I had, but the frame was too thick so the sides didn't lay flat.  After thinking for a while, I decided to put rubber spacers on each corner over the screws to hold the frame slightly away from the paint.  The rubber also worked to hold the plastic Italian plate in place.  After my first pass it was clear that I needed to custom fit each corner so the rubber would be even and work right.  Here you can see where I marked the edge and how it came out after sanding off the excess rubber.

When all of the corners were done and the frame screwed down, there is just enough of a gap to prevent rubbing.
