Paint Work
The major item to get done was to resolve the paint situation.
There were several runs in the clear coat. The trunk lid was crazed with a large bug that had flown in and stuck while the paint was drying. And then there was the dent that I had put in it with the jack handle when I was careless one day. I hadn't painted the jambs, door edges, etc. with the enamel paint so that had to get done too. There was also some crazing near the headlight buckets and across the front above the grille.

The first issue was getting rid of the runs and wet sanding (which found several more).

I sanded through in a couple of places while working on the runs. In addition, the whole trunk lid needed a complete rework. So it was stripped to bare metal, and then filled, blocked smooth and primered.
The rest of the car was masked off except for the areas that needed painting.
The doors, trunk lid and other small parts went into a makeshift spray booth.
The painting went pretty well until the second color coat on the trunk lid. A big glob of paint came out of the gun and went splat right in the middle of the lid. I should have just carefully picked it out, gone over the area again and then it probably would have polished out. But instead I decided to wipe off the color coats with reducer and start over. However, the reducer started taking off the primer so I just had to quit on the trunk lid (remember, I did mention that it was a saga). The rest of the painting came out pretty well.
It's now 14 years later and 29 years since the car was fully painted. There are some flaws and garage rash that have occurred over the years. In addition, I now regret painting it red. The original color was silver, but when I bought the car, it was stripped to bare metal. It was my first Ferrari and Ferrari's are red, so I painted it red. So this winter, it is getting a bare metal professional paint job back to the original silver.
