Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
Last years concours was kind of a disaster. The car wasn't finished and I was still installing parts at midnight. The car ended up with a third place, but with only four cars in the class, clearly an also ran.
This year, due to my procrastination, there were still several projects to be completed. But having a firm date is a good motivator for me.
I finished the last task around 8 PM the night before. At least it wasn't midnight.
The judging went well, at least I didn't break off the headlight stalk this year. All of the lights worked along with everything else.
There were only three cars in my class, a 275 GTS, 365 2+2 and my 330 GT 2+2.
With three awards, I was assured to get a trophy. I knew that I would give the GTS a run for the money (that car was best in class last year), but it's hard to have judges put a 2+2 car ahead of a spyder. However, in the end my car did earn First in the Vintage V12 class with a Platino certificate. The GTS is a very nice car, did receive a Platino certificate and won Best of Show.
In addition, I was awarded the NWRFCA Ferrari Concours d'Elegance Enzo Ferrari Perpetual Excellence Award for this year. This came out of the blue, but in hind sight, a committee member came over a week or so to talk about 330s and the conversation evolved into my history with the Ferrari community. Now I understand the visit.
The Forest Grove Concours is in a week. I figured that since I did so much work to get the car ready for this one, I might as well do two in a row. It's a couple hundred miles away in Oregon, so the cleaning preparation will be more of a challenge.
