Kerry's 330 GT Restoration

FCA NW Region Concours 2016

The concours in 2015 was excellent, platinum award with 98 points.  So this year, there wasn't a much higher bar to shoot for.

I still had one major and some minor projects to be completed.  But having a firm date is always a good motivator for me.

  1. The big project was replacing the rear window seal.
  2. Fixing the driver's door outside handle so it would open the door easily.
  3. Replace the foam carpet padding with jute padding.
  4. Have the brake master cylinder rebuilt.

I finished the last task on Friday before the concours on Sunday.  This gave me Saturday to clean and polish the car.  Saturday is a local car and coffee get together, so I went, but took my clay bar and clayed the car there.  I got several questions as to what I was doing.  Evidently a lot of people don't know about using clay to remove surface impurities.  In my case, it is the best way to remove the spider crap courtesy of those who live in the rafters of my shop.

The judging went well and all of the lights worked along with everything else, even the A/C.  The judges were amazed when I told them that I had replaced the rear window seal just two days before.

There were only two judged cars in my class, a 275 GTS and my 330 GT 2+2. There was also a very nice 365 2+2, but it was a non-judged entry.  A 330 GTC entered to be judged was a no show.

Last year, my car was first in class while the same 275 GTS was second.  This year, we swapped places with the 275 having ½ point better score, so the 330 was second.  Both cars received platino awards, which for this year the FCA requires 97 (up from 95) points at a minimum.

This year, I received my permanent NWRFCA Ferrari Concours d'Elegance Enzo Ferrari Perpetual Excellence Award from last year.

Probably, only in Seattle could one have a local concours where there were two 250 GTOs present.  In addition, there were several Ferrari supercars, including a F40, Aperta, 458 Speciale A, 599 GTO, Enzo and a LaFerrari.

It was quite an interesting field, mainly newer cars.  I counted 86 Ferraris, including several spectator cars.
