Kerry's 330 GT Restoration
One of the other projects that has been getting in the way of working on the Ferrari is replacing the existing garage/shop with a new one. Our house is pretty old (by west coast standards), having been built in the '20s. The garage/shop is a detached building that is 21x32' with half (garage part) on a cement slab and the other part on plywood flooring that is 2' up from the garage floor. I think that the garage part was originally a shed building and then the shop was added as the construction is completely different between the two parts. Then we added an additional 6' onto the far end to serve for lawn equipment and storage. This part is just gravel on the existing grade.
So the overall size is 21'x38', but since it's cut into three parts with walls between them on on three levels, it makes the area more difficult to use. A long time goal has been to replace the existing building with something larger and on a single level slab.
The new shop is going to be 30'x44'. For the plans, click here.
Now you might ask what this has to do with not working on the Ferrari. In addition to the Ferrari being in the existing building that has to be demolished, there are lots of parts, tools, benches (and junk) that has to be moved and stored securely during the month it will take to build the new building. The house has/had an attached carport that is pretty large (24x28'), but being a carport can't be locked up. So I've been working on walling in the front so a double wide garage door could be installed. In addition, the side and rear walls were just partial, so they were removed and replaced with full height walls. We also added a door that goes directly into the house as the previous access was from the back porch and that got walled off. Here you can see the new garage door and unpainted wall on the side.
But the prospect of moving everything has had me trying to finish certain projects on the Ferrari. Every project that gets finished and installed means several less things to box up and move. If it's on the car, it will inherently move when the Ferrari gets moved. That motivated me to finish the package shelf, install the rubber seals for the doors, put the stereo radio in the console and get working on the carpet.
