Kerry's 330 GT Restoration

The Future

It's now almost the new year and not much has been done on the car since the Whistler trip.  We did make a trip (not in the Ferrari though) to southern California, visiting Tom Shaughnessy and getting some parts and tools.  I also spent two days at the Skip Barber driving school outside of Monterey and had a ball.

The list for the Ferrari never seems to get shorter.  I'm in the process of making a new package shelf (with thanks to Lowell Brown for his to look at).  I've got a stereo Becker radio to replace the mono one, so that needs to be installed.  I've still got the scoops to get installed so I won't worry that they will fall off.  There's the one headlight trim ring that I either need to fix or find a replacement.  You might note that there aren't any pictures showing the right headlight!  After spending a couple of hours over at Lowell's house, measuring where his carpet snaps in, I finally found all of the original holes in the floor and installed the snaps.  Now I just have put the matching pieces in the carpets at the right places.  Oh, and cut and fit the foam for under the carpet.  Then there's the trunk carpet to glue down.  And fix up the couple of places where polishing pad grabbed in the wrong place and polished through the paint.  Then there's the stainless steel trim to be finished by sanding and polishing.  Plus I've got rebuilt Koni shocks for the rear.  And at the same time, I need to remove the differential and replace a noisy bearing inside.  The gas tank still has a minor seep.  I've got one from a series 1 with the filler on the wrong side, but in much better shape.  So I need to remove the leaky one and take both to the radiator shop and have them move the filler pipe.  The clutch was slipping under high torque load the other day.  So I need to see if it just needs an adjustment or a seal has leaked oil on it.  And the brakes seemed a little spongy going down a Seattle hill.  Maybe the master cylinder needs rebuilding.  Then there's the saga of the trunk lid.  And, and, and, ...

As you can see from the hyperlinks some of the above items have gotten done in the last year and a half.  However, the list never seems to get shorter.  I've had a new shop built and a lift installed.  One of the first things I did when I put the car up on the lift was an hour of close inspection.  I moved, rattled, wiped and checked everything that I could think of.  During this process I found that I had a loose tie rod end, an oil leak from the tach drive on the distributor, one muffler heat shield touches the frame, the front license plate isn't straight and the backup lights point down instead of being level.

It never ends, but they sure are fun to drive.
